FAQ:
What is a dress rehearsal?
A dress rehearsal is a full run-through of the performance in costume, with hair and makeup done, as if it were the actual show. This rehearsal allows dancers to get comfortable performing in their costumes, making sure everything fits and moves properly while also practicing transitions, quick changes, and final stage adjustments. It is the last opportunity to work out any details before the performance.
what do i bring to a dress rehearsal?
Dancers should arrive for dress rehearsal in their regular street attire. Costumes will already be placed in their assigned dressing rooms, unless they are from the teen/adult classes, who may have taken their costumes home after tech rehearsal. Dancers must arrive with their hair and makeup performance-ready. While we have hair supplies available backstage, we do not provide makeup. It is a good idea to have a small make-up bag with you for touchups. Additionally, dancers should bring a labeled water bottle and backstage-appropriate snacks (see snack ideas listed below).

does my dancer have to have hair
and make-up done for dress rehearsal?
Yes, dancers must have their hair and makeup done just as they would for the performance. This allows them to:
- Get used to how it feels to dance with performance hair and makeup.
- Ensure that their stage makeup is visible under bright lights.
- Make sure hairstyles stay secure during their routine.
- Identify and fix any issues with their costume, hair, or makeup before show day.
what time should we arrive for dress rehearsal?
Dancers should plan to arrive 10 minutes before their scheduled arrival time to allow for parking, gathering belongings, and preparing for rehearsal. The set arrival time for your class is when dancers should be in the lobby, fully prepared to take instruction. Arriving early ensures a smooth and timely start, allowing us to make the most of our rehearsal time.
what does "mandatory" mean?
When we say a dress rehearsal is mandatory, it means all dancers are required to attend. This is the only time before the show that dancers can experience performing in full costume, with lighting and sound cues, just as they will on performance day.
why is it important that every dancer is present?
A performance is a team effort, and every dancer plays a key role. During the dress rehearsal, dancers learn how to manage costume changes, practice their entrances and exits, and get used to the stage lights and performance setting. If a dancer is missing, it can disrupt spacing, timing, and group formations, affecting the entire routine. Having everyone present ensures that the performance will run smoothly and that all dancers feel confident and prepared.
what happens if my dancer misses the dress rehearsal?
If a dancer misses their dress rehearsal for a non-emergent reason they will not be allowed to perform. This is because dress rehearsal is the final chance to run through all technical aspects of the show, including formations, transitions, and costume changes.
