Dance Makers is a creative, process-based camp for dancers who love imagining, experimenting, and making movement their own. Throughout the week, campers will work together to create a dance theater piece, blending movement, storytelling, and simple props.
This session will be inspired by a children’s book, and dancers will use the story as a starting point to create characters, scenes, and movement ideas. Using a playful, collaborative process, campers will explore improvisation, choreographic tools, and group decision-making as they bring the story to life through dance and discover how full dances, movement scenes, and transitions naturally emerge.
In addition to dancing, campers will create simple props and visual elements to support their work. The week will conclude with an informal showing where families are invited to see the piece the dancers have built together.

Is this camp right for my dancer?
Dance Makers is a great fit for dancers ages 8–12 who enjoy creativity, imagination, and working collaboratively. Prior dance experience is helpful but not required. This camp is especially well-suited for dancers who like to explore ideas, try new things, and contribute their own voice to a group project. Dancers should be comfortable participating in group discussions, improvising movement, and spending a full day engaged in creative work. A willingness to explore, collaborate, and have fun is the most important requirement.
Dresscode
Summer is a time for fun and exploration! We have no set dress codes for this camp. Dancers should be able to move comfortably in their chosen attire, and neither clothing nor hair should require adjustments. For all camps, hair should be pulled back from the face and jewelry removed. We do not supply hair ties. It is suggested that your camper carry a pack of hair ties in their camp bag.
What to Bring
Dancers should bring a labeled water bottle, a healthy nut-free lunch, and a healthy nut-free snack each day. No candy or gum. Campers may also want to bring an extra snack if they tend to get hungry in the afternoon. Send everything in a clearly labeled bag or lunchbox.
