Placement for our Modern classes for our younger dancers is based on age as well as maturity and skill level. If you are a new student, call the Studio for assistance in choosing the appropriate level. If you are a returning student, refer to your class placements when selecting levels. Creative Movement

The creative movement class is designed to introduce young children to the joy of dance and movement in a fun and nurturing environment. Dancers will develop their motor skills, coordination, and creativity through imaginative play, music, and simple dance exercises.

Modern Kidz

Fun and energetic dance will guide students to their own self-generated choreography while learning simple dance steps in various dance styles. Students will develop body awareness and the joy of collaboration through structured improvisation.

Jr Modern 1-2: This class will combine elements of Horton, Graham, Limon, Cunningham, and Gaga improvisational work with post-modern contemporary movement. Each class will begin with a center warm-up, include traveling progressions across the floor, and finish with a short phrase or combination exploring elements of fall and recovery, release technique, working in and out of the floor, contractions, and isolations.

Modern 1 is perfect for teens and adults new to modern dance or those looking to revisit the basics. We will learn the core principles of modern dance, including basic movement patterns, floor work, and alignment. You will be guided through exercises that build strength, flexibility, and body awareness, ensuring confidence and comfort.
This class provides a welcoming and supportive environment where you can connect with fellow dancers, share experiences, and support each other’s growth. No prior dance experience is necessary – just bring your enthusiasm and a willingness to learn. |
Contemporary with Marisa explores a number of dance traditions, from modern to street jazz, lyrical to urban and everywhere in between. This class is designed to strengthen dancers' sense of musicality, agility, fluidity and dynamic expression and most importantly, will encourage dancers to embrace and enjoy their unique artistry. This class is intended for dancers with a technical background and a desire to MOVE!
This class will be taught by Isadora Snapp for the month of September. Classes will focus on building strength, technique, and fluditiy of movement. |

Modern 3-4 combines several movement approaches, from modern technique (Limon-based drop, suspend) to dance/theater (spoken word and narrative-based dancing) to guided creative movement and improvisational exploration. The class will build towards an ensemble and create a trusting and safe space for delving deeper into the body as a vehicle for expression. The class will include a rigorous workout element, building core strength through a Pilates-based warm-up.

Modern 5 is designed for experienced dancers looking to deepen their understanding of modern dance through advanced techniques, improvisation, and composition. With a focus on challenging movement patterns and grounded movement, dancers will work on enhancing strength, memory, flexibility, and precision. Students will also utilize structured improvisation exercises and guided composition exercises to develop their own unique dance voice. This class fosters a collaborative
atmosphere and dancers will have the opportunity to participate in group discussions, give and receive feedback, and support each other's growth. |

This class combines elements of House, Hip Hop, Lofting, Ballet, Modern and Postmodern to form contemporary expressions of movement. Dancers will move in and out of the floor, explore musicality and improvisation, and merge conscious breathwork with movement. In addition, students will learn choreography for the end-of-semester performance. Previous dance experience is required.
