studio policies

At Contemporary Dance and Fitness Studio, we expect everyone who enters the Studio to conduct themselves respectfully. We value showing respect for ourselves, our fellow students, our teachers, and our building. Respect may look like coming to class prepared and on time, being supportive of each other, listening when our teacher is giving instruction, and being safe and kind to our environment.

Arrival At the studio

Students arrive at most 15 minutes before classes. We encourage younger students to be dropped off on the first floor. They will be met by their class assistants. We welcome parents and caregivers to enjoy our new Family Room while dancers are in class. Students in levels Junior 3-4/Ballet 3 and above enter on their own. When possible, students should arrive in their dance attire. We have one changing room available on the 2nd floor outside of studio A. Bathrooms are throughout the building on both the 1st and 2nd floor. Please contact the studio if your dancer is 12 or under and will be arriving more than 15min before their first class on a regular basis.

Attendance

Regular and prompt attendance is required. Please email the studio if a student will be absent or late. Late students should wait at the classroom door to be welcomed by the teacher. There is a 3 absence maximum per semester for all dance classes except Ballet 5, Ballet 6, Teen Jazz, and Jr. Company (please inquire). Exceptions are for serious illness or injury. Students absent during choreographic work might not perform that section of the dance. All Barre Opera House rehearsals and performances are mandatory for performers. Please see the Studio Calendar for those dates. If you or your student do not show for a scheduled private session with a teacher, you will still be charged for that session, unless prior notice is given.

Injuries

Students must tell their teachers about any injury that might affect their performance in class. Some injuries may prevent a student from physically participating in class. If they can still be present at the studio, we recommend they watch their class actively by completing a Class Observation Form. These forms are available at the front desk. For ongoing injuries, we suggest consulting with a doctor, and students should keep their teacher updated on their healing process.

Illness

Please stay home if you have a contagious or transmittable illness or condition. If your illness is not contagious, but you feel you can’t dance, please watch class actively and complete a Class Observation Form. Forms are available at the front desk. We require masks for any respiratory symptoms.

perSONAL
belongings

Contemporary Dance and Fitness Studio is not responsible for lost or stolen items. Dancers should bring their valuables into the Studio spaces on the 2nd floor. Cubbies are available in the Teen Lobby and the Dressing Room. Unclaimed items are placed in Lost and Found at the end of each night and recycled during each vacation. Please write your dancer’s name on all dancewear, especially footwear.

food
and drink

Healthy snacks and meals may be consumed, when needed, in the lobby and family room. However, only plain water is allowed in the studios. Every dancer should bring a personal water bottle with them to class. Gum is not permitted in the studios.

electronics

All electronic devices must be left in the dressing rooms or at the front desk, with ringers turned off. Dancers may check their phones between classes, not during class breaks. Smart watches may be worn unless they prove to be a distraction. We want to keep the focus on dance and learning. If students cannot follow this rule, we may as them to leave their phones at the front desk or with the teacher for the duration of their class.

bullying

Contemporary Dance and Fitness Studio takes pride in our supportive studio environment, and we do not tolerate bullying. If you or your child experience unwanted behavior or communication at the studio, during studio-related events, or online in relation to studio matters, please contact us immediately so that we may resolve the issue.

FINANCIAL

Please visit our TUITION AND FEES page for more information on our financial policies such as withdrawing from classes, refunds, canceled/missed classes, and late payments.
