We are excited to announce our new CD&FS Community Company, which will offer four yearly performance opportunities to current and new students.
Who can participate? We are looking for dancers at all levels who are passionate about dance, performance, and building community. At the time of the performance, dancers should be at least 9 years old. If your dancer is under nine and interested, please reach out. Elementary schoolers, middle schoolers, high schoolers, and adults—we want everyone! Where will we be performing? Within the Montpelier Community. • Enchanted Forest. October 18th/19th. Confirmed • Ice on Fire. February. To be confirmed • Montpelier May Fest. To be confirmed. • CD&FS Fall Open House. August. Confirmed What is the level of commitment required? Dancers must attend all scheduled rehearsals for the upcoming performance they are participating in. You do not have to participate in all performances; we will list each as a separate class. A new contemporary piece will be choreographed for each performance, utilizing set choreography and improvisation. What is the tuition fee? We want to make this opportunity as financially accessible as possible while still paying staff for their time and creative energy. The rehearsal fee, which covers 5.5 hours of rehearsal, is $60 per dancer per performance. At this time, we cannot offer scholarships for this fee. I'm interested! How did I sign up? Enrollment is open for the Enchanted Forest Performance. Depending on dancer availability, we will perform on Friday, October 18th, and Saturday, October 19th, or just October 19th. Enchanted Forest Rehearsal Schedule: Sundays, September 29th, 12:00-2:00 pm; October 6th, 12:00-2:30 pm; and October 13th, 12:00-1:00 pm. Enroll through JackRabbit (look for the Enchanted Forest Rehearsal class) or via email. Dancers must enroll by September 25th, and we need a minimum of 6 performers. Do you have questions or suggestions? Please let us know. We are excited about and still developing this programming.

Welcome to February and Black History Month. Throughout the month, our teachers will share how African Americans have been originators, innovators, evolutionary figures, and role models in the dance world. Ask your students what they learned! T-Shirt Design Contest! To celebrate our 50th anniversary year, we are holding a t-shirt design contest. Please pick up a design paper at the front desk and return it to us by February 24th to be entered into the contest. The winner will have their design printed on limited edition 50th anniversary T-shirts. We will have these for sale at CD&FS through the end of this session and during our anniversary celebrations in June. The winner will also receive a free t-shirt and a $20 class credit. We have a lot of events to share with you this month. To start, Teen Jazz is having a Valentine’s Day Chocolate Bark Sale. You may remember buying delicious fudge from us in past years. This year, we are offering three different kinds of bark— White chocolate with Raspberries, Milk Chocolate with Pretzels and Caramel, and Dark Chocolate with Peppermint. If you want to purchase a box, either order directly from a Teen Jazz company member or use this ORDER FORM. Please submit order forms by February 7th. The bark will be available for pickup at CD&FS from February 12th to February 17th. On February 17th, Teen Jazz and Junior Company will share their Tour Preview in The Chapel in College Hall at VCFA. This building is right across Ridge Street from our home in Stone Hall. The Tour Preview is an annual performance where our Company dancers share the pieces they have completed in preparation for their Spring tour of local schools. In addition to a fantastic performance experience followed by a Q&A, you can peruse a Silent Auction filled with donations from local businesses and artists. The online link for the Auction will go live on February 12th. Proceeds from the show go directly to Teen Jazz to support their continued fundraising efforts for their New York City trip. The proceeds from the Silent Auction will benefit Teen Jazz’s scholarship fund and support our 50th Anniversary Gala in June. For tickets and details, please visit the Teen Jazz WEBSITE. The Tour Preview is a wonderful community-building event for all ages, and we hope to see you there. Every year in mid-February, we send home a Performance Mailing with detailed information regarding our production week rehearsals and performances at the Barre Opera House. This year, you will receive the information in the mail, in your email inbox, and we will upload it to our website under the performance tab. All mandatory rehearsal dates for the 2024 Performance are currently on our website. Please use them to help you with your Spring scheduling, as dancers must attend all technical and dress rehearsals to perform. February break: The studio will be closed from February 26th to March 2nd. We DO have classes on March 4th and 5th. Our friends at Lost Nation Theater have asked me to share audition information about a musical they will be putting on this summer - Prom. They need a lot of dancers for this production, so if musical theater interests you, please find more information here: https://lostnationtheater.org/2024-professional-summer-musical-theater-intensive-production/ Summer Camp registration is now live for current students. Click HERE for more information and to register. We will release our weekly class schedule for June in March - keep an eye out for more offerings this year for our Kidz and Junior dancers. A few business notes: February tuition is now due. If you are on the self-pay schedule, please pay your tuition on or before the 10th of the month to avoid a late fee. All accounts must be current for students to perform in the show. Costume Fees: The 2024 costume fees are $60 for ballet and kids classes - all “Kidz” and “Junior” classes. The costume fee for Teen/Adult classes is $30 - unless a teacher has opted out of utilizing it. The costume fee for Contemporary is $35. If you/your dancer is performing in our May show, 50% of the costume fee was billed on February 1st. The second half of your costume fee will be billed on March 1st. If you/your child decides not to perform and has not notified us of that fact, you are still responsible for the full costume fee. At the end of the show, all performers keep their costumes. Attendance: We have a three absence maximum per semester, per class policy. We understand that there have been many sicknesses going around and our student health is the most important thing. If your child is out for any reason, please email us so we know why. Missing more than 3 classes per semester may affect a student's level of participation in the show. This decision is made on a case-by-case basis and communicated to the family. For the next few months, attendance is very important so that students don’t miss learning and rehearsing choreography. Sickness: If you are sick with a transmittable disease, please stay home. If you are feeling better but are still coughing/sneezing/sniffly, please wear a mask in the studio. We have masks available behind the desk if you forget one. Weather: When we have to cancel classes due to weather, we will notify you by email at or before noon. Please reply to that email so we know you received it. Follow-up calls will take place if we don’t hear back from you, and it helps us immensely to know you’re aware of the cancellation. We will also post class cancellations on our website and social media. TLDR: CALENDAR February 1st: Summer Camp registration opens for existing students. February 7th: Valentine’s Day Bark Order Due. Pickup February 12th-17th at CD&FS. February 12th: Performance 2024 show details released. February 17th: Teen Jazz Tour Preview. 6:15pm Silent Auction. 7pm Show and Q&A. February 26th - March 2nd: February Break March 4th and 5th: Classes are held. Hello Dancers and Families,
We have successfully made it through the first week of our Spring Session! It’s so great to see dancers back in the studio. A few business notes: If you are new to our studio - Welcome! Please take a moment to familiarize yourself with our POLICIES, STUDIO ETIQUETTE, and DRESS CODE. Parents should drop off their dancers on the first floor for our youngest dancers through our Junior 1-2 level. They will be met by their class assistant or the person working the desk that day. After class, they will be brought back to the first floor. Exceptions are made for PrePrimary 1 and PrePrimary 2 dancers who need support getting to class. For all dancers - we will no longer be providing hair supplies. Every class requires hair to be pulled back neatly from the face, so bring your hair ties! January tuition was due on the 1st and is now considered delinquent. Payments received after January 10th will incur a $10 late fee. If you plan to pay by check, please bring your check in to your next class. If that class is after the 10th, let us know that is your plan, and the late fee will be waived. May 2024 Performance (May 17th, 18th, and 19th) mailing will go out in early February. However, families must decide if their student(s) will participate in our performance by the end of January. 50% of costume fees will be posted with February tuition and 50% with March tuition. Once costumes are ordered, there are no refunds for costume fees, even if a family decides not to perform. We will assume that your dancer is participating unless you tell us otherwise. The performance is a very special experience and a truly rewarding way to end the year. For questions, please email us. You can find general information about the performance HERE. Mandatory dates to consider when deciding on participation: May 4 and 11th: Rehearsals at CD&FS for all of Isadora’s ballet classes May 11th: Rehearsal at CD&FS for PrePrimary 1, PrePrimary 2, Primary 1, Primary 2, BKidz, Tap & Jazz Kidz A and B, and Modern Kidz. May 12th-19th: Technical Rehearsals, Dress Rehearsals, and Performances at the Barre Opera House. Specific rehearsal times and performance details will be released in February. Summer Camps are on the horizon! Our schedule will be released on January 22nd, and Registration will open for current families on February 1st. Registration for new families begins on February 5th. We will be offering a multi-camp discount of 10% - sign up for two or more camps per family and receive 10% off of your total camp tuition. Looking forward to the rest of the semester, you can always find our STUDIO CALENDAR on our website. We are closed for February Break 2/23 - 3/2. Classes ARE HELD on March 4th and 5th. We are closed for April Break, 4/22-4/27. Here's to week 2! Isadora Snapp and the CD&FS Faculty Dear Dancers and Families,
Happy New Year, and welcome to the Spring Semester! Classes begin tomorrow, January 2nd. I hope everyone enjoyed their Winter Break and is ready to step back into the Studio with renewed energy and focus. I am extending a warm welcome to our new families and our new(est) teacher - Millie Heckler. Millie will be teaching two classes on Monday nights. Inferno Pilates Conditioning from 5:15-6:15 and Fusion (Intermediate/Advanced) from 6:15-7:45. Millie is an engaging, energetic teacher, and we are so lucky to have her. Enrollment for her classes is open. If you're curious about what a Millie Heckler Fusion class is like, contact the office about dropping in for a class. On Fridays, we have added a second class time for Tap & Jazz Kidz. The A class will run from 3:45-4:30 pm, and the B class will run from 4:30-5:15 pm. These classes are at the same level and will be taught by Madison Atwood, who is taking over for Molly McCall. She is a member of Teen Jazz and a junior faculty teacher who loves jazz and tap dance. She is excited to share that love with the students. There is plenty of space for new students in these classes. Contact the Studio if your dancer would like to join. To adjust for the additional Tap & Jazz Kidz class, HipHop 1-2 will be shifting 15 minutes later and is now 5:15-6:45 pm. Although it may seem far away, we are beginning to plan for our May performance at the Barre Opera House. For general performance information, please refer to our WEBSITE. Detailed information and schedules will be posted on the website and mailed to families in February. Costume fees will be broken into two payments this year and added to your JackRabbit account. 50% will be due on February 1st and 50% will be due on March 1st. Costume fees are charged per class, not per student. Our Ballet, Kidz, and Junior classes have a $60 costume fee. Our Teen Adult classes have an optional $30 costume fee that the teacher will decide. Those classes will be notified individually to address whether or not their class has a costume fee. We have several students who receive scholarships or do a work-study to afford their tuition. We are only able to offer scholarships for class tuition. Please let us know if you can sponsor a family and help offset their costume fees. Summer Camps: This year, we will have a 3-week Summer Session with exciting, new class offerings. This session will run from June 10th to June 28th. We will also offer half and full-day Summer Camps during the last week of June and into July. Camps will serve a wide range of dancers in various dance genres. There will be something for everyone! Our camp schedule will be released on January 22nd, with registration opening on February 1st. Please take a moment to fill out our SURVEY so that we can best meet your needs when building our summer schedule. We want to hear from you! Also taking place this summer - Save The Date for our 50th Anniversary Celebration at Goddard College the weekend of June 29th. Details to come! Dear Dancers and Families,
Welcome to December - the final month of our Autumn Semester. I have a lot of exciting things to share with you and just a few business notes. I want to welcome Carissa Bellando and Millie Heckler to our faculty. Carissa just finished working with Junior Company, setting a fast-paced classic Jazz dance on them. She joins the full-time faculty as our new Tap teacher. Millie Heckler has been a Guest Teacher and Guest Choreographer at CD&FS for the past three years, setting pieces on Teen Jazz and subbing classes. In January, she will be teaching a Pilates Conditioning class and Fusion. You can read Carissa and Millie’s biographies on our faculty page. Our Monday schedule has had a bit of a shake-up to accommodate Millie’s Conditioning class. The Spring Week-At-A-Glance is attached. Enrollment for our Spring semester begins on December 1st and is open through the end of January. All students currently enrolled in classes will automatically be enrolled in the Spring semester. January or full semester tuition fees (depending on your billing settings) will be posted on December 23rd and due January 1st. Please note that your monthly tuition will be different in the Spring semester. You can review our tuition fees HERE. If you do not plan to continue with a class, please notify us via email before December 23rd. Thank you to everyone who came to our Fall Works In Progress Showing. Seeing dancers sharing their work with friends and families is always rewarding. AnnaMaria DiPietropaolo, our social media manager, has uploaded the show to our YouTube page. Find it HERE. Please follow us to ensure you are notified of future updates. I will make it a new practice to share exciting local dance opportunities with you as they come to me. I have attached a poster highlighting a workshop that Hanna Satterlee is producing this January. Additionally, while we do not do a Holiday show, several studios close to us do. Please see and support local dance as much as you can. These shows are magical. Moving Light Dance presents the Green Mountain Nutcracker at the Barre Opera House. Ballet Wolcott presents The Grinch at Lamoille Union High School. Vermont Ballet Theater presents The Nutcracker at the Flynn. CALENDAR: Our second Assistant Workshop is on Sunday, December 10th, from 4:00 to 5:00 pm. If you/your dancer is an assistant and did not attend the November workshop, please plan to participate in this month’s workshop. We will be focusing on how to choreograph and teach effective class combinations. December 11th - 16th is our Observation Week. Observation Week is when families and friends are invited to observe all or part of a class. There is no set maximum number of people allowed to attend per student, but please be mindful of our spatial limitations. Some classes may invite guests to participate, so be prepared to move. In addition to watching your dancers in class, I want to invite our younger students to attend the more advanced classes as they can. It can be magical for those dancers to take a peek into the higher-level classes. Are you interested in trying a new style in the Spring? This week is also a great chance to observe a class you’re curious about or support a friend. Junior Company will have an open rehearsal led by Isadora Snapp on Wednesday from 5:00-7:00 pm. Students interested in participating in the company in future years are encouraged to attend some or all of the rehearsal. Teen Jazz will have an Open Rehearsal led by Allison Mann on Friday from 5:15-7:30 pm. Both Companies will be in the process of learning new choreography as well as running their existing pieces. Watching a new piece take shape is a creative and often joyful process to be a part of. New this year - Teen Jazz will have a week-long bake sale to be enjoyed in the Lobby before or after classes. On Sunday, December 17th, Tracy Martin will teach a free NIA class from 3:00-4:00 pm. NIA (Neuromuscular - Integrative -Action) is an aerobic, posture-aligning, and uplifting mind-body technique! Using breath and imagery ~ come prepared to get a work-OUT! This class wraps up our Autumn offerings for the Sunday Series. I have linked a short survey HERE to help us design our Spring Sunday Series Offerings. Please take a moment to fill it out. We want to offer classes that you are excited to take. Our Winter Break is from December 19th through January 1st. Classes resume on Tuesday, January 2nd. We DO have class on Monday, December 18th, and make-up classes are often held on December 19th and 20th. We schedule a make-class when the Studio has had to cancel a class due to weather or teacher availability. In such an event, individual classes will be emailed with information about when a make-up class will happen. Thank you for sharing your creativity and energy with all of us at Contemporary Dance and Fitness Studio. The Fall semester has been full of growth so far, and I'm excited to see the community come together in the last few weeks of the semester. Best, Isadora Snapp, Director December 10th. Assistant Workshop, 4:00-5:00 pm in Studio B. December 11th - 16th. Observation Week and Teen Jazz Bake-Sale December 17th, Sunday Series, 3:00-4:00 pm in Studio B. NIA with Tracy. December 18th, Last Day of Classes December 19th and 20th, Make-Up Classes January 2nd, Classes Resume Dear Dancers and Families,
Welcome to November! The chill in the air has surprised me, but our Studio spaces are toasty warm. October is our first long month of the year and marks the halfway point of our Autumn Semester. With the start of November, our Fall/Halloween festivities have concluded. Thank you so much for your enthusiasm during Spirit Week. It’s so fun to see students come to class in funky outfits and enjoy the bake sale. When we have our next bake sale, please remind your students that it is a fundraiser for Teen Jazz, and all treats must be paid for. We had a lively crew at our Pumpkin Carving and Sock Hop event. If you didn’t get a chance to come, click HERE to view some pictures. If you did go and take some photos you would like to share with the community, please email them to me, and I will add them to the website. We would love to see all the fabulous costumes. A Business Note: November tuition is now due. Beginning November 1st, Contemporary Dance and Fitness Studio is implementing a late fee policy. Accounts will be considered delinquent after seven days. A $15 late fee will be added to all payments after the 10th of the month. A $25 late fee will be added to all payments received after the 20th. You can view our updated policy HERE. As always, communication is key, and we work with families on payment plans as much as we can. We have three events to share for November. The first is an Assistant Workshop. This will be held in Studio A on Sunday, November 5th, from 4:00-5:00 pm. If your dancer is an assistant, please check that they have either signed up for the November Workshop or will be attending the December Workshop. Participation is mandatory to continue their assistantship and supports the work that assistants do in the classroom with our youngest dancers. Works-In-Progress Showing: Saturday, November 11th. The Fall Works-In-Progress showing is an annual event hosted by Teen Jazz. Classes will come together in Studio B to share dances and movement phrases they have been working on in class. In addition to Teen Jazz, Junior Company, HipHop, Jazz, Contemporary, Modern, and Ballet classes will be performing. This year, we will have two showings to accommodate our spatial needs. The first showing is at 6:30 pm, with doors opening at 6:15 pm, and the second showing is at 7:30 pm. Reservations are required. You can reserve your seats by calling, emailing, or making an online registration through JackRabbit. You can access our event calendar HERE or in your JackRabbit account under Events. Suggested donation: $15 for adults, $10 for kids. Cash preferred. Checks accepted. Sunday Series: Our Sunday Series of FREE classes continues with Conditioning on Sunday, November 12th from 10:00 am - 11:00 am. Taught by Allison Mann, this class includes squats and lunges with weights, floor work for your abs, thighs, and butts, and deep yogic stretches. All set to a playlist of inspiring music. Pre-registration is encouraged but optional. This class is open to existing students and the public, so bring a friend! Thanksgiving Break: The Studio will be closed November 20th-25th for Thanksgiving Break. Make-up classes may be scheduled on November 20th and 21st. Individual classes will be emailed with details about any planned make-up classes. See you in the Studio, Isadora Snapp and the CD&FS Faulty Dear Dancers and Families,
What a beautiful first day of October. I hope that you all had a chance to partake in the sunshine. We have enjoyed a busy beginning of the year, and dancers are starting to settle into their classes and routines. I want to take this chance to congratulate our 2023-2024 Teen Jazz Company Members formally. At the start of every season, interested dancers in grades 9 - 12 audition for a place in the Company. These dancers are an integral part of our community, and you may recognize many of them as assistants and teachers for our younger classes. Check out their smiling faces here, captured by Isabel Senter: https://teenjazzcompany.weebly.com/who-we-are.html. Class change: Starting October 9th, Erin Sullivan will take over Fusion - on Mondays, 7:15 - 8:45 pm. Some of you may remember Erin from when she taught a Street Jazz class at the Studio a few years ago. She graduated from the University of Vermont this past Spring and has been gracing us with her Front Desk skills on Mondays and Tuesdays and subbing for Hip Hop classes. She will continue in Rose’s footsteps of exploring the connections between Modern, Jazz, and Hip Hop while bringing her own style. A few business matters:
What’s happening this month: Spirit Week: October 16th - 21st: Celebrate the shifting of the seasons with us as we bring some levity into the Studio. Teen Jazz will have a bake sale in the upstairs Staff Room Monday through Saturday: cookies, muffins, snack bags, popcorn, and more for enjoying before or after class. Don’t forget your money! Treats are between $1 and $3. Monday: Monotone Magic. Wear your favorite color and only your favorite color. Tuesday: Twinning. Find a friend to wear matching outfits with. Wednesday: Decades Day. Dress like it’s the 50s! Or 70s! Any decade goes. Thursday: Wacky Day. Wear your wackiest, most colorful, pattern-full outfit. Friday: Pajama Day. Dress in your coziest pajamas. Saturday: Fairytale Friends. Dress like your favorite fairy tale character. Spirit Week Costume Contest: 2 lucky dancers will win $10 gift cards redeemable to any Teen Jazz bake sale this season. Gift cards will be awarded at the Sock Hop. All costumes must be dance class friendly. Family Pumpkin Carving and Sock Hop: Saturday, October 21st. 5:00-7:00 pm Suggested Donation: $15 per family for the evening. Kids 10 and under should be accompanied by an adult for the pumpkin carving. The first 12 pumpkin cravers get a free pumpkin!
Halloween: Tuesday, October 31st Junior Modern 1-2, Jr Modern 3-4, and Modern 3-4 are cancelled. Make-up date: November 21st. Classes will be held at their usual times. ALL OTHER CLASSES ARE HAPPENING. Dancers are welcome to wear movement-appropriate costumes to class. Thank you so much for being a part of this vibrant community. Best, Isadora Snapp and the CD&FS Faculty Wow. What a week. We hope everyone is safe, and our hearts go out to all the families affected by the flooding. The strength of the Montpelier community has shown through, and we are so thankful to be a part of that community.
We are settling into our new Studio space on the VCFA campus tucked away on the hill. As a result, we were not directly affected by the flood and could still host our first group of dancers for the FairyTale Fusion Camp this past week. Dancers aged 3.5 - 5 yrs old spent their mornings with MC DeBelina, and it was beautiful to have creative dancing bodies in the space. Our downstairs Studio space still looks slightly like a construction zone, but our sprung floors have been finished. Thank you to Val and Harrison Snapp for undertaking that tedious project. Mirrors have been placed in the upstairs studio, and marley floors will soon be laid in both Studios. Enrollment is ongoing for our Autumn Session. Some of our kids’ classes are robust, and there will be an option to be added to a Waitlist. Please place your child on the waitlist for their preferred class choice. There is no charge to add their name to the waitlist; if places open up, you will be contacted. Additionally, we are exploring adding a second class time for some of our classes. If we are able to do so, an email will go out with that information. Our Autumn Preparatory Week (August 28th thru September 1st) is a fantastic way for Teen (ages 12+) and Adult dancers to ease their bodies back into dance. Classes available include a Technique Wakeup, Ballet and Pointe Wakeup, and a Contemporary Class with one of our new teachers - Marissa Hall. Portal registration is preferred, but drop-ins are welcome as well. Check out those offerings here: https://www.cdandfs.com/autumn-preparatory-week.html. Our Leotard and Footwear Exchange is also happening that week, Monday through Thursday, from 3:45-6:00 pm. Bring your gently used, clean leotards and dance shoes, and leave with something “new.” Drop-offs are accepted starting all day on August 26th. Take advantage of the Dancewear Try-On and Order Days on August 26th, 10 am-2 pm, and August 28th, 1:00-4:00 pm. The months of July and August are always quiet for the studio. We do not have regular office hours during the Summer, so please contact us via email or phone (646-400-5882). If you prefer to meet in person, I am happy to make an appointment. We will host an Open House on Saturday, September 2nd, from 10am - 2pm, where Families can familiarize themselves with our new Studio location. Come try out the sprung floor and feel how soft the dressing room rug is. I hope to see you there. |
